Harare City face Dynamos in a crucial Castle Lager Premier Soccer League fixture which could either earn the Sunshine Boys’ coach Bigboy Mawiwi some breathing space or could seal the fate of the under-fire gaffer.
With three defeats in as many matches, the start has been far below expectations for a team that finished third only due to goal difference last season, after amassing the same number of points as Dynamos and Highlanders.
What makes Coach of the Year Mawiwi’s task tougher is that he faces a DeMbare side also under pressure to collect all three points after losing their only home match so far to new boys ZPC Kariba.
Mawiwi’s post has been the subject of speculation after defeats to Chicken Inn (3-0), Caps United (2-1) and ZPC Kariba (1-0) on Monday.
Despite on paper assembling one of the strongest squads in the league, Mawiwi is struggling to strike a winning formula with his team scoring just one goal in 270 minutes.
In the three matches Mawiwi has chopped and changed his squad but the results have not come.
On Sunday he will be hoping that he can finally make his side click.
What a stage to prove his doubters wrong and earn the confidence of his paymasters? His bosses have high expectations of finally clinching the league, yet from current evidence that could just be a pipe dream.
For coach Kalisto Pasuwa at Dynamos, the club expects another trophy-laden season and he too will be looking to take some pressure off with a win on Sunday after a disappointing early Caf Champions league exit.
