Castle Lager Premier League giants Caps United have received a major boost ahead of the 2014 season with the signing of Lincoln Zvasiya and also striking a deal for kit sponsorship.
After losing several players to others clubs during off-season the Green Machine have set about rebuilding signing several players and striking deals with could improve fortunes for the club.
Negotiations for kit sponsorship were successful and the club is expecting delivery of their new kit which will be unveiled before the season starts with replicas going on sale.
Only Highlanders and Dynamos have kit sponsors but even their deals have raised questions.
Things are looking up both on the financial and playing side.
After losing the defensive duo of Arnold Chivheya and Tawanda Munyaduri to Harare City and ZPC Kariba, the signing of Zvasiya could plug the holes left.
Zvasiya impressed coach Tau Mangwiro and the two parties struck a year-long deal, but the centre-back could still return to South African champions after six months.
He had a short training stint at Harare City where Big Boy Mawiwi decided against signing him with the player struggling with his fitness, but since he starting training at Caps his fitness levels have vastly improved and could prove a major deal for the four time champions.
The player could have signed earlier but the sticking point was the duration he would stay at Caps with the Green Machine pressing for a year’s deal while his representatives want him to return to South Africa.
The two however found common ground and it is likely that Zvasiya will stay at Caps all season.
Mike Makaab of ProSport International, who represents Zvasiya, said that Zvasiya would be engaging Chiefs at the end of the South African season to see if he could have a future at Amakhosi.
“Lincoln is training in Zimbabwe and we have people helping us there but for now it is a wait-and-see situation, but we hope to see him playing. However, we will definitely be sitting down with Chiefs at the end of the season to discuss his future because he is still contracted to the club,” says Makaab.
Caps United will continue with their preparations for the new season with a friendly match with Shabanie at Maglas stadium.
