Hifa to highlight MDGs

With one year to go before the deadline for meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and as part of its contribution towards raising awareness around them, the Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa) will hold discussion forums interrogating the roles of the media, art and culture in social development.

This was announced by Hifa at a press conference on Tuesday at which BancABC confirmed its support for Hifa 2014.

The MDGs were set during the United Nations’ Millennium Summit in 2000 and include women’s empowerment to which both BancABC and Hifa said they were committed.

Explaining the rationale behind Hifa’s various socially-oriented activities, the festival’s head of media and community liaison, Tafadzwa Simba, said although Hifa cannot be expected to solve the world’s problems, it has the power to catalyse positive social progress; which catalytic role it is keen to play.
