Zanu PF squeezes out US$125 000 for indaba

ZANU PF has managed to squeeze more than US$125 000 for its annual people’s conference slated for today and tomorrow in Chinhoyi from parastatals and companies in joint ventures with government through the sale of exhibition space at its ongoing indaba.

The party, which is broke, was selling exhibition space at US$3 000 for three square metres. The space was taken up by about 41 companies, mainly parastatals that are perennially struggling and continue to bleed the fiscus as well as companies in joint ventures with government like Mbada Diamonds and Marange Resources.

The most prominent stands were those of the National Parks and Wildlife Management, which had two lions and a variety of snakes including a python, Mbada Diamonds and the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority. Other loss-making parastatals exhibiting include the Central Mechanical Equipment Department (CMED), Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa), NetOne and Air Zimbabwe.

The exhibition is part of the fundraising efforts of the Zanu PF national fundraising committee comprising Goodson Nguni, Pamela Chitupa, Olivia Mufusa, Jeriphanos Jaya and Felix Mhona.

“This is part of our fundraising efforts to have a successful people’s conference and we hope to be doing this every year,” confirmed Mhona.
The party needed to raise at least US$3 million to fund its conference.

It raised close to US$1 million from the exhibition expo and a fundraising dinner three weeks ago where people had to fork out between US$2 000 and US$100 000 for tables.
