THOUSANDS of Zanu PF supporters have thronged Chinhoyi University grounds for President Robert Mugabe’s rally this afternoon.
While more than 12 000 party supporters are already inside the university grounds awaiting Mugabe’s arrival, thousands more are still queuing in long winding queues outside.
People started queuing as early as 6 am to attend the rally in one of Zanu PF’s traditional strongholds, Mashonaland West, which Mugabe is expected address anytime soon.
Indigenisation minister Saviour Kasukuwere told the Zimbabwe Independent the huge crowds Mugabe is attracting are testament to Zanu PF’s enduring appeal.
“The crowds speak for themselves and it’s time even the private media tells the true story of Zanu PF’s popularity,” he said.
The Chinhoyi rally is the fourth Mugabe has addressed since the launch of the party’s election campaign at Zimbabwe Grounds on July 5. Mugabe attended the apostolic sect annual Passover festival in Marange where he pleaded with them to vote for Zanu PF in the forthcoming elections on July 31.
