SEASONED Zimbabwean professional golfer Tongo Charamba made a welcome return to good form after shooting a first round four-under par 69 during the opening round of the Zambia Sugar Open at Lusaka Golf Club yesterday.
The 31 year old two-time winner on the Sunshine Tour was well placed in a tie for fourth position alongside the South African quartet of Ulrich van der Berg, Doug McGuigan, Alex Haindil and Jacques Blaauw.
Charamba will resume the second round today just three shots behind overnight leader South African golfer Martin du Toit, who topped the leaderboard after firing an impressive seven-under par 66.
Charamba has made the cut just once in four events on the Sunshine Tour this season — at last month’s Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open where he finished tied for 59th position.
Promising Zimbabwean professional golfer Micky Hough is one shot behind Charamba on three-under-par 70, while the country’s leading professional on the Sunshine Tour, Ryan Cairns, is not too far behind the leaders after ending the opening round on two-under par 71.
