SOUTH Africa-based Zimbabwean actor Leroy Gopal is set to feature in a movie titled Kite alongside veteran US actor Samuel L Jackson.
Gopal’s new acting role alongside the Django Unchained star comes hardly a few weeks after he scooped the Best Comedy Actor award at the South African Film and Television Awards.
Although Gopal kept the role he will play in Kite under wraps, the Yellow Card star said he was ready to shine on the international stage.
“It’s official. I am shooting the movie Kite with Samuel Leroy Jackson. God is great!” an ecstatic Gopal said. “I am super excited because that’s a legend right there.”
Leroy made his name in Zimbabwe when he played the role of Tiyane in the Zimbabwean blockbuster movie Yellow Card.
The 34-year old played the lead role in the movie which won awards at the Cannes and Dhow film festivals in 2000. Gopal clinched the Best Actor gongs for his role.
The film also clinched nominations at the Toronto Film Festival and Zimbabwe Film Festival.
After relocating to South Africa, Gopal has managed to feature in many South African films and series productions such as Hola Mpinji, Home Affairs, Jozi-H, One Way, Jacob’s Cross and Ses’ Top La.
Recently he made an appearance in the South African soapie Generations as a chauffeur to actress Sophie Ndaba.
Besides acting, Gopal is also a voice-over artist.
Kite is a live-action version of the 1998 Japanese anime Kite about a young girl determined to hunt down her father’s killer with the help of his ex-partner.
