S.Africa’s Sept inflation quickens to 5.5 pct y/y

JOHANNESBURG- South Africa’s headline consumer inflation accelerated to 5.5 percent year-on-year in September from 5 percent in August, Statistics South Africa said on Wednesday.

Inflation also quickened on a month-on-month basis, to 0.9 percent from 0.2 percent in August and against market expectations for a 0.6 percent print.

Economists had expected prices to rise by 5.2 percent year-on-year.
