HIGHER Education minister Stan Mudenge died in Masvingo yesterday although the cause of death could not be ascertained at the time of going to press.
He was 71.
Mudenge had been unwell for some time.
In June 2010, he was reportedly admitted at the Avenues Clinic’s High Dependency Unit in Harare for eight days after being diagnosed with cardiac failure.
Mudenge in March spent a week in hospital with head injuries after being attacked by a bull at his Chikore farm in Masvingo.
Born on December 17 1941, Mudenge served in various cabinet portfolios, including Foreign Affairs from 1995 to 2005. He was part of Defence minister Emmerson Mnangagwa’s faction battling Vice-President Joice Mujuru’s group to succeed President Robert Mugabe.
Mudenge was never far from controversy after a succession of marriages following the death of his first wife Kgogo in 2001. His second wife Eunice died in 2004. He married Mildred Kada at his Zimuto rural home in May this year.
