PRIME Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s wife Elizabeth Macheka is set to be formally introduced to MDC-T’s Bulawayo provincial officials this morning ahead of the party’s 13th anniversary celebrations in the city tomorrow.
An MDC-T source in Bulawayo said Macheka would also be introduced to the party’s provincial women’s assembly.
Macheka was customarily married to Tsvangirai a fortnight ago as their marriage licence by a Harare magistrate after the prime minister’s estranged lover Lorcadia Karimatsenga Tembo successfully filed for an interdict arguing she was still customarily married to him.
Although the ceremony went ahead and all marriage rites were performed, no marriage certificates were signed and invited regional heads of state did not turn up.
The source also said senior party members have refrained from speaking out against Tsvangirai’s sexual escapades for fear of victimisation.
“Bulawayo has been a veritable battleground since congress last year and we have an example in Tabitha Khumalo that vocal people are demoted,” said the source.
Despite graphic details of his sex life making headlines in the local and regional media,MDC officials insist Tsvangirai remains popular than his rivals.
