THE Warriors could not have hoped for much easier opposition after they were drawn against Angola in the final round of the Afcon 2013 qualifiers whose finals are set for South Africa next year.
The draw was held in Johannesburg last night.
Zimbabwe will host Angola during the weekend of October 7-9 before the second leg to be played between October 12-14.
The Warriors managed to avoid continental giants Cameroon, Ghana or Ivory Coast, but have a tricky tie against Angola whose star player is Manucho.
Malawi has a tough assignment against Ghana while Botswana face Mali, with Mozambique paired against Morocco.
Holders Zambia will have to beat Uganda to make it to another edition of the continental showpiece, while Cameroon face Cape Verde.
Zimbabwe is still to appoint a substantive coach and it looks like Rahman Gumbo, recently fired by FC Platinum, could fill the post having led the Warriors in a caretaker capacity since February this year.
Under Gumbo’s guidance, Zimbabwe knocked out Burundi thanks to the away goals rule after losing 2-1 away, before winning 1-0 at the National Sports Stadium to make the draw.
Afcon final round:
Mali v Botswana, Zimbabwe v Angola, Guinea v Niger, Mozambique v Morocco, Zambia v Uganda, Malawi v Ghana, Tunisia v Sierra Leone, Sudan v Ethiopia, Algeria v Libya, Ivory Coast v Senegal, Equatorial Guinea v DRC, Gabon v Togo, Central African republic v Burkina Faso, Liberia v Nigeria.
