Ruffcuts, which has grown from strength to strength since inception, also supplies local shops such as Truworths, Meikles, Barbours, Greatermans, House of Kumali, Bata and Athletes World.
The company’s founder and chief executive officer, Marco Machona, said he started the clothing and entertainment brand when he returned from the US and was amazed at how Zimbabweans outside the country accepted and appreciated his product.
“When we launched it in 2001, our brand became an instant hit, and a household name, not only in my own country but across Africa, through endorsing Channel O presenters and music shows,” said Machona
The brand, he said, eventually earned its own TV show called Amazing Stories in 2003. Marco Machona a ZTV Breakfast Show presenter then, whose segment was interviewing musicians, artists, poets and fashion designers, said those experiences contributed to the growth of his company.
In 2008, Ruffcuts won an entrepreneurial award from Africa Heritage Society and another award from Wits Clubs and Societies for assisting in functions like Miss Wits (South Africa) and All Res Council and for sponsoring a number of beauty pageants contesting in the Miss Zimbabwe final competition.
Machona described Ruffcuts as a dynamic company, which strives to meet the consumer’s needs. He said their clients have confidence in Roughcuts products and services.
“We communicate with the needs and wants of our market. The life style, the social survey and the un-said interests of our market informs our dynamic creations, designs and entertainment events. Hence, we have once again been selected to dress Channel O presenter, Chumi,” he said.
Machona said he intends to spread his wings and venture into furniture production. He said he is optimistic.
“I strongly believe that where ever you dig, you will find gold, depending on how deep you dig. Ruffcuts will soon brand bedding, curtains, chairs and tables. I believe in the strength of the brand and I’m confident that we will reach greater heights ,” Machona said.
