Brent backs national cricket team to come good

In February Zimbabwe returned home empty handed after losing all matches on their tour of New Zealand in the same version of the game.

Allan Butcher’s men were also beaten in the one-off test by an innings, and the three one day internationals by wide margins.

The tour by South Africa is expected to fine-tune the squad ahead of the 2012 T20 World Cup scheduled for Sri-Lanka in September.

Brent said Zimbabwe has the potential to come up with good results as they had done so in the past. “There is no doubt we are going to play one of the strongest teams in cricket in the world. I think the guys are capable of coming with positive results for the country against South Africa; it’s just a matter of having a positive attitude,’’ he said.

“In the past we defeated Australia which is very talented so nothing can stop us from coming out with a good result against such highly rated countries,’’ Brent added.

The national side has been struggling since last year and the side that toured New Zealand exposed the team.

Zimbabwe is in a tough T20 World Cup group that includes Sri-Lanka and South Africa.
