THREE of the country’s top musicians, Victor Kunonga, Chiwoniso Maraire and Hope Masike will on February 9 perform together at a concert dubbed “Tribute to Adam Chisvo” in Harare.
The concert, which will take place at the Alliance Francaise, will see the three top musicians performing in memory of the late renowned percussionist and mbira guru, Chisvo, who died of diabetes last year.
“I am definitely going to be part of this concert and fans can expect more of an exciting mbira night where Victor will play the mbira more than his usual guitar,” said Kunonga.
He said he was honoured to be among the performers because the late Chisvo had been like a brother to him who was always ready with advice on his career and band.
Kunonga said it was a chance to remember a man who was a great communicator and alert on issues concerning the music industry. He was a key band member and audiences appreciated his presence on stage.
“All the proceeds from this show will be given to his wife and children in a bid to continue supporting them to pay their fees, buy food and other necessities,” he said.
Masike said she was happy to be part of this performance — her first in 2012 — and she had been rehearsing many of her new songs which will be part of her latest offering set for release later this year.
She said Chisvo was never part of her band but had been a friend and brother to her.
