Hove in Sables Debut

FORMER Zimbabwe schools rugby star Vakai Hove is the only addition to the Zimbabwe squad to face Zambia at Harare Sports Club tomorrow.

The two neighbouring countries meet in reciprocal yearly test matches every year.

Former Prince Edward School prop Hove — affectionately known as Fish in the Cape club rugby circles where he is somewhat regarded as a University of Cape Town legend, having spent nine passionate years playing for the club — has only represented his country at the Zimbabwe Schools level.

The Sables have emerged victorious over the Chipolopolo in their last two meetings, in Harare and Kitwe in 2007 and then last year.

Zimbabwe are on a high having won the inaugural Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) Southern Trophy in Botswana in July.

The Sables watched their star centre Daniel Hondo limp out of the tournament just a few minutes into the first match with Mauritius. The good news for coach Brendan Dawson is that Hondo is fit again to play.

The success in Gaborone resulted in Zimbabwe jumping nine places on the International Rugby Board rankings.

They were the biggest movers in the international rankings.
