HEAVY TUMOUR: A German doctor said Friday that surgeons have successfully removed an 18kg malignant bone tumour from a Saudi Arabian woman.

Dr Heinz Zurbruegg, a surgeon at the private Capital Health clinic in Berlin, said the 35-year-old had only a few weeks to live when she arrived in Germany for care in September.

But he said that after five operations by the surgeons, no traces remain of the bone tumour that once ballooned from her pelvis and represented a third of her body weight.
She said the tumour had kept her bedridden for five years, but she now could walk with crutches. –– Sf Gate.

SHUT UP! : An eastern Idaho judge who lost patience with the disruptive behaviour of a defendant ordered court officials to tape the man’s mouth shut with duct tape during a court hearing.
The unusual move was ordered by 6th District Judge Peter D McDermott during a probation violation hearing for Nicklas Frasure (23).
Frasure was convicted of felony theft in 2008, but the judge retained jurisdiction for sentencing depending on Frasure’s response to treatment. In October, Frasure was released from a state mental hospital in Blackfoot. –– Msnbc.

NO KIDDING: Usually, it’s an empty threat: “If you kids don’t stop fighting, I’m going to stop this car right now and leave you here!”
But a mother from an upper-crust New York suburb went through with it, ordering her battling 10 and 12-year-old daughters out of her car in White Plains’ business district and driving off, police said Tuesday.
A judge on Wednesday modified a temporary order of protection against 45-year-old Madlyn Primoff and her two daughters. Her lawyer, Vincent Briccetti, said Primoff is no longer barred from living or talking with her children. –– Msnbc.

The woman was suffering a migraine and had told her employer, Nationale Suisse, she needed to lie in a darkened room, reports the BBC.
The company said its discovery that she was also using Facebook destroyed its trust in her and prompted her sacking.
But the unnamed woman, who is from Basle, said she had been accessing the internet on her iPhone while in bed. –– Ananova.

MARATHON WEDDING: A Hertfordshire couple got married by exchanging vows while running the London marathon.
Rachel Pitt and Garry Keates took a detour 40km into the race to jog down the aisle of St Bride’s Church on Fleet Street, reports the Daily Mail.

DEFLECTIVE BRA: The metal underwire in a Detroit woman’s bra was credited with deflecting a bullet fired at her during a break-in at a neighbour’s home.
Detroit police Officer Leon Rahmaan said the 57-year-old woman apparently looked out her window on Tuesday when one of three men fired the shot.
He said the slug smashed through her window pane before hitting the bra’s underwire. It did not penetrate her skin. –– Safegate.

DESPERATE MEASURE: A Serbian union official who chopped off his finger and ate it in a protest over wages that in some cases have not been paid in years, said on Monday he did it to show how desperate he and other workers were. –– Reuters.
