It’s a Weird World

PRISONER IN TRUNK: A Michigan judge says he’s learned a lesson about locking his car doors after a 16-year-old prisoner who escaped from a holding cell at the Macomb County courthouse was found inside his trunk.

The Macomb Daily reports the teen had appeared Friday in juvenile court in Mount Clemens on a probation violation before he fled.

Sheriff’s deputies searched about an hour before a security officer became suspicious after seeing a picture on the ground next to the judge’s 2002 Lincoln Continental. A deputy found the boy in the trunk. –– Msnbc.

DOGS SEIZED: North Texas authorities seized 22 dogs found crammed inside a station wagon with their owner. The owner locked the car doors and refused to come out when a constable tried to serve her a warrant for the seizure of the dogs early Monday, said SPCA spokeswoman Maura Davies.
Two puppies and 20 dogs were taken to a shelter until a judge decides who gets custody, the SPCA said. A hearing on the custody of the animals is set for February 16 in Denison.
The dogs were in the car along with a pot of water, blankets and waste. The owner does not face charges, Grayson County constable Michael Putman said. She was not coherent and the SPCA said it has contacted Adult Protective Services about the woman. — Msnbc.

BATH TORTURE: A Polish student reported his mother to police for psychological torture after she told him to take a bath and tidy his room.
Police rushed to rescue Lukasz Zapalowski (22) when he dialled 999 claiming to be a torture victim at the family home in Warsaw.
But when they got there his furious mum told police all she’d done was ask him to have a bath once a week, tidy his room and help with the rent. –– Ananova.

NAKED HIKERS: Naked mountain hikers in the Swiss canton of Appenzell-Innerrhoden will in future face on the spot fines of 200 Swiss francs (US$170), Swiss daily Tages-Anzeiger reported over the weekend.
“We must protect our children from these immoral habits,” the paper quoted Melchior Looser, head of the cantonal justice and police department, as saying.
Police succeeded in catching a naked hiker red-handed last September, and the 44-year-old Swiss man was charged with public nuisance. But the case has not yet been heard, leading the local authorities to push for a quicker way to deal with offenders.
It was not clear where the naked hikers would find the money, although hikers often carry rucksacks. –– Reuters.

WANTED-DRINKERS: A pub landlord down to his last two customers has put up signs outside his pub begging for more.
Tim Gibson (43) failed to attract drinkers with meal deals and flyers stuffed in letterboxes.
So he stuck blackboards on the pavement outside the Royal Oak in Blean, Kent, pleading for business.
One reads: “Wanted. Customers. No experience needed as full training will be given. Please apply within.”
He put up another aimed at wives which says: “Free husband creche. Is he getting under your feet? Leave him here while you shop — just pay for his drinks.”
Tim said: “The blackboards were the last resort — it’s a funny message but the sentiment is deadly serious. If we don’t get new people in we’ll close.
“We’ve got a small group of regulars , two at the moment, but it’s not enough. I’ve been in the pub trade for years and never known it to be like this.”
One of the remaining regulars, said: “The only good thing is you get served straight away.”–– Ananova
