Parreira does not have to win World Cup

WHILE national team coach Carlos Alberto Parreira does not have to win the 2008 African Nations Cup, the South African Football Association (Safa) has told the Brazilian that he is expected at least to lead Bafana Bafana into the knockout stages of the event,

after the team failed to get past the opening round during the 2006 tournament.

Bafana begin their quest against Angola on January 23 next year and Safa executive committee member Mandla “Shoes” Mazibuko — who will also be Bafana Bafana’s head of delegation during the Ghana tournament—said the association had done everything in its power to ensure that off-the-field distractions would not be used as an excuse should the national team fail.

“We want to go to the final and we are not dreaming,” Mazibuko said on Wednesday.
