I WAS surprised to hear President Mugabe boasting the other day at the UN Summit of having taught Ian Smith democracy. Mugabe went on to say that as a result Smith was farming freely in Zimbabwe.
I would like to sincerely appeal
to the old man to also teach us the same democracy. So that in turn we will live freely, walk freely, speak freely in Zimbabwe and campaign freely for the opposition. He should also teach the journalists democracy so that they will write freely and express their views freely. We all promise to be good students like Smith, who when taught democracy farmed freely. All along I thought democracy belonged to the family of dinosaurs that perished millions of years ago, not knowing we have the best
tutor of democracy — our own President Mugabe.
