Mungwira buried in Scotland

THE late Justice Sandra Mungwira’s family in Harare is going to hold a memorial service to coincide with her burial today in Scotland. The service is set for 1400 hrs at the Anglican Cathedral along Nelson Mandela Avenue.


The late Justice Mungwira died of cancer last Saturday.


She was born on November 30, 1956 being the first born in a family of three. She attended St Martins Convent in Harare and Nagle House Convent in Marondera before enrolling at the University of Zimbabwe where she studied law.


Here working career started in 1978 when she was appointed public prosecutor in the Ministry of Justice before being elevated to a junior magistrate in the same year.


Two years later, she was appointed senior magistrate for Kwekwe before being promoted to provincial magistrate in 1987. She became regional magistrate (western region) a position she held for five years. Justice Mungwira was appointed to the High Court in 1996 becoming the third woman judge.


She is survived by her husband Dr David Mungwira, and two children, Zgora and Kumbukani. – Staff writer.
