DeMbare/Caps derby revives yesteryear’s fond memories

By Brain Murandu

FOND memories of the emotional Harare derby will be rekindled at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday when Dynamos and Caps United clash in a Premier Soccer League encounter.

ONT face=”Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif”>The current Caps team has revived the memories of Steve “The Dude” Kwashi-coached side of 1996 that went on to lift the league title. This time pundits are putting their money on this season’s green and white troops guided by Charles Mhlauri to match the feat achieved some eight years ago.

However history has it that nothing is guaranteed when the two sides clash and winners of maximum points will only be known after the final whistle.

But there is no denying that Caps are the team of the moment and national team trialist Brian Badza is the man to watch. Skilful

defender-cum-midfielder Cephas Chimedza will be under the spotlight as he meets his former side for the first time.

The log leaders’ captain David Sengu also appears to be in fine form but he could face a stiff challenge in Dynamos’ slippery Zambian import, Clive Mwale.

Away from boardroom wrangles and agitation that always seem to haunt the 1963-established team, De-Mbare is never an ordinary outfit when it comes to fighting spirit.
