Team lose warm-up


THE University of the West Indies Vice-Chancellor’s XI beat Zimbabwe by five wickets in a warm-up match at the Jolly Beach Resort ground in Antigua.

for the sick Terrence Duffin, won the toss and opted to bat.


They made 324 for five in their 50 overs, with Piet Rinke leading the way with 113 runs, Brendan Taylor 80, Charles Coventry 54 and Keith Dabengwa 33.


Richard Kelly was the pick of the West Indies bowlers. He picked up two wickets for 46 runs in seven overs.


The University team reached the victory target with 3,5 overs to spare. Ryan Hinds posted an unbeaten 117, Chadwick Walton 67, also unbeaten, Xavier Marshall 54 and Shirley Clarke 37.


For Zimbabwe, Anthony Ireland, returning after being sidelined by an injured left hand, bagged three wickets for 52 runs in 8,1 overs.


The tourists leave Antigua and Barbuda today for Georgetown, Guyana, where they will meet the West Indies in the third and fourth Digicel One Day International matches at the Bourda Cricket Ground on Saturday and Sunday.


Duffin, who has been down with stomach trouble, and Edward Rainsford, who was also out with a more severe ache, are both expected to be available for selection. Ireland’s availability is subject to a late fitness test. — Staff writer.
