Bosso open season with guns blazing

HIGHLANDERS are early favourites for the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title after only three matches in the season.

The former champions have had a flying start in the new season and are the only side to bag maximum points from their first t

hree games.

However, Highlanders manager Emmett Ndlovu preferred to be cautious about his team’s chances.

“It’s too early in the season to say we are to be considered as one of the favourites for the league,” Ndlovu said.

“All I can say is we have had a good start to the season and that is a fact. One would hope that we maintain that position.”

He added: “Black Rhinos and Monomotapa are also playing very well but they were held last weekend, which shows that anything can happen to anyone.”

However, Bosso’s good run could suffer a setback after Ndlovu announced yesterday that the league’s joint top scorer, Ralph Matema, is likely to miss his team’s Easter and Independence holiday programme due to injury.

Matema, with four goals in the season after finding the net in every game so far, picked an injury after scoring the winning goal with a fine diving header in his side’s 2-1 win over premiership debutants Mwana Africa last Saturday.

Bosso play Hwange in a league fixture at Barbourfields tomorrow before taking on bogey side Masvingo in the semi-final of the Independence Trophy at the same venue on Sunday.

“Masvingo beat us in cup games last season and in the league. The best we could do was a draw,” Ndlovu said.

“We are hoping to turn things around and give them a good run for their money this season.”
