RIOZIM Ltd has appointed Josephat Sachikonye to the position of managing director with immediate effect, chairman Eric Kahari said this week.

Kahari said as part of the restructuring, outgoing chief executive officer John Nixon had been appointed deputy chairman of RioZim.

Nixon was at the helm of the company for 12 years and was instrumental in the development of Murowa Diamond Mines.

Sachikonye said this week that he was looking forward to the challenge of leading the company.

“I am excited at the prospects for the new RioZim as there are many opportunities in Zimbabwe for a company such as ours. We aim to provide the returns that our shareholders are entitled to,” he said.

Sachikonye has been with the company since 1980 when he joined as a graduate accounting cadet. He held various posts including that of group finance controller.

An associate of the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants, Sachikonye serves on the executive committee of the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe and is also a director of several companies – listed and unlisted.
