“Trial productions are taking place in several southern African markets,” Seed Co said. “Development work is continuing in Egypt, Ethiopia and Cameroon and we are looking forward to setting up business units in some of these countries in the foreseeable future.”

Seed Co said for the year ended December 31 it had focused on rebuilding production capacity.

“This exercise has been very successful and while production in the year under review was down to some 13 000 tonnes, it is expected that production in the current season will be back to traditional levels,” the company said.

“This will allow the company to satisfy the demands of both the public and private sectors and possibly allow for the rebuilding of strategic stocks which would lead to resumption of exports.”

Turnover increased by 687% to $92 billion, profit after tax increased by 870% to $29,3 billion.
