OPERATIONS at Makwiro Platinum’s Ngezi open pit mine that was recently closed after workers undertook industrial action have resumed.

rdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif”>”As a result of the efforts on Friday and following the provisions of the Labour Act (2002) most of the workers were back at work on Saturday and have since then remained at work,” Zimplats spokesperson Jack Murehwa said.

He said the mine was now back at full production. However, Murehwa said while production capacity had improved, some operations remain limited as the contractor awaits final resolution of the issues.

The workers, who were on industrial action, were employees of Horlock Mining, a Zimbabwean contractor mining company. On the extent of loss which the mine made due to the industrial action Murehwa said it was still too early to determine the losses.

“We are not able to determine the extent of the losses at present and this will become evident once the dispute is resolved,” Murehwa said.

The suspension of operations is likely to result in the reduction of the group’s production of ore this month.

“Ore production for June will be adversely affected by the industrial action,” Zimplats said.

To offset this, Zimplats said it would bring forward planned maintenance of the crusher and the concentrator.
