Chikumbu to grace ZimInd Insurance Survey

INSURANCE expert, Simon Chikumbu, will be the guest of honour at the Zimbabwe Independent Insurance Survey launch to be held on Thursday next week.

Chikumbu, who is in charge of the strategic, management and operational activities of the organisation, has over 20 years experience in the insurance industry.

He worked for 10 years at Munich Reinsurance Company (Munich Re) covering both insurance and reinsurance and has been with the Aon group (reinsurance broking) for the last 11 years.

He joined Munich Re in 1984 based in Harare after having worked for two organisations in an engineering environment.

He has also worked in the mining and manufacturing industry.

Chikumbu joined Aon in Zimbabwe in 1995, then Minet Insurance Brokers, where he established a reinsurance broking operation.

He was then transferred to South Africa in 1999 to join the newly formed Aon Reinsurance Company as a director.

Last year, Chikumbu was appointed managing director of Aon.

Aon is responsible for developing reinsurance business for the group in Sub-Sahara Africa and Indian Ocean Islands.

Aon currently operates in 15 countries in the African continent.

Chikumbu is a member of the executive committee of the African Insurance Organisation (AIO), an industry body for insurance companies in Africa.

In February this year he was also elected deputy president of the Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA) and is bound to take over as president in May 2006.

Chikumbu holds a B.Sc Mechanical Engineering, ACII-Chartered Insurance Practitioner and AIISA- South Africa.

He was born and raised in the eastern part of Zimbabwe.
