ZIMBABWE Independent and Standard chief executive officer (CEO) Trevor Ncube has announced the appointment of company group general manager Raphael Khumalo and group project
s editor Iden Wetherell to the board.
Their appointment will be effective from November 1. Khumalo will at the same time become group CEO.
Ncube remains executive chairman. The other members of the board are Beatrice Mtetwa and Mike Curling.
Wetherell is a former editor of the Zimbabwe Independent while Khumalo was financial manager of Zimpapers before joining the Zimbabwe Independent and Standard group.
“This is a long overdue recognition of Iden’s loyalty, professionalism and commitment to the group,” Ncube said yesterday. “His presence on the board will be valuable to the company moving forward. Iden brings to the board a great intellect and attention to detail.”
On Khumalo’s appointment as group CEO, Ncube said: “The board is absolutely delighted with the way Khumalo has managed the company over the past 11 months. To have circulation of both papers – namely the Standard and the Independent – increase under these difficult times is testimony to his astute management style. Revenues have grown significantly with a concomitant firming in profitability.”
