DUNLOP Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd (Dunlop) managing director, Phil Whitehead, has died.
He passed away on Saturday October 29 after he collapsed during a marathon in the
“He was taking part in a charity Marathon in Matopos when he collapsed on the ninth kilometer peg and died on the spot,” Whitehead’s wife, Sandy, said.
She said doctors diagnosed heart failure though Whitehead had no previous history of heart problems.
Before moving to Dunlop, Whitehead held significant positions in various companies. He was formerly managing director of Turnall Holdings, managing director of BMA Fasteners, production director of Datlabs and sales manager at ICL.
At the time of his death, he was a director at Zimplow, chairman of Dunlop Roll Covers and one of the five world ambassadors of the Comrades Marathon, run each year in South Africa.
Phil was born in Bulawayo in May 1956. He is survived by Sandy and four children.
