EMBATTLED acting Harare mayor Sekesai Makwavarara yesterday threw in the towel by resigning from the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) following pressure from opposition leader Morgan Tsvangi
Tsvangirai last night said Makwavarara had already been expelled from the party.
“The provincial executive and the national disciplinary committee on Monday came up with a recommendation that she has to be expelled from the party,” said Tsvangirai.
“From then on she was suspended from any position in the party, therefore her quitting today is immaterial,” he said.
She however remains acting mayor amid reports that government wants to appoint a commission to run the city.
The Zimbabwe Independent could not obtain comment from Makwavarara last night.
