Dembo’s music spreads to Botswana

THE late renowned musician, Leonard Dembo, whose hit song Chitekete was last year accorded the Silver Jubilee award for the best song, has had his music hinterland extended to neighbouring Botswana, IndependentXtra has gathered.

align=justify>A group in Botswana called Eskimos has re-done Dembo’s chart-topping Chitekete in a kwaito flavour known as Chitekete Remix. The group changed the language from Shona to Tswana using Dembo’s beat who was affectionately known as Musorowenyoka by his fans.

DJ Cecil based in Botswana confirmed that indeed the group exists and has done a remix of Chitekete. “We are now playing Chitekete Remix at functions that we attend as disc jockeys. It was released between February and March this year. I am sure fellow DJs in Zimbabwe have that song by now,” he said. — Staff writer.
