THE Zimbabwe National Bodybuilding Association (ZNBA) is banking on sponsorship pledges to stage a successful Mr Zimbabwe contest in October.

“Things are promising to be better this year. We have made frantic efforts to secure sponsorship and if the pledges that have been made by potential sponsors are to be honoured, we will be able to stage a very successful event on October 25,” said Takundwa.

Last year’s edition of the Mr Zimbabwe contest was marred by chaos as participants protested against the little prizes on offer. It was the same case at this year’s Mr Iron Man held in May, where the winner received $50 000.

The ZNBA has been citing lack of sponsorship for its failure to host successful events and provide incentives for participants.

More than 600 contestants from across the country are expected to take part in this year’s Mr Zimbabwe event in Harare.

Reigning Mr Zimbabwe, Givemore Marume, will face stiff challenge from the likes of Mr Iron Man Walter Munyikwa, Collin Mushunje and Zumailer Eusen Maman.
