TRAGEDY struck thelocal basketball fraternity when star player Takunda Chidimu died after a night of partying last Saturday.



serif”>The 20-year-old youth international passed out after a party with friends on Saturday night and was driven by a friend to his parents’ Marlborough home where he was found dead on Sunday morning.


A family representative confirmed the tragic death but couldn’t give more details.


An outstanding point-cut for the rebel Premier Basketball League side Cavalliers, Chidimu was also a top schools coach, having led Marlbrough High to the Harare North Schools League championship last year.


He was selected last year among the top 100 junior African players for a youth camp in South Africa. The former Prince Edward student played for the Harare provincial and Zimbabwe schools select teams during his schooldays and was a member of the national Under-20 side at the time of his death.
