MAJOR changes are likely to occur at the top of the Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA) amateur order of merit when the Harare Amateur Championship tees off at Warren Hills tomorrow in the absence o
f the leading pack.
The country’s top amateur golfer, Garth Dale, who leads the order of merit, will next week team up with number two Nick McDonald and Ryan Lang to represent Zimbabwe at the Eisenhower Trophy, the world’s biggest amateur event, to be held in Costa Rica.
Rob Saurombe, the non-travelling reserve for the Central America tour, who lies fifth on the merit list, will be hard-pressed to win the Harare championship and justify his publicised disappointment in missing out on selection for the Eisenhower.
Other golfers tipped to take advantage of the touring trio’s absence and climb up the order of merit include Pete Lorrimer, David Herbert and Julius Kalimazeni.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe amateur team left the country this week for Puerto Rico en route to Costa Rica. The team is managed by ZGA president Neville Henly.
