Contracts before ZOC jaunt

THE Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) will insist that each athlete travelling for this year’s Olympic Games in Greece signs a contract before the team leaves.

“Whether it be athletes or officials and even the chef de mission, a contract has to be signed and this is not the first time we’ll be doing this. We introduced it for the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester (United Kingdom),” he said.

Mutsauki, who is also the chef de mission of the delegation said the contract incorporates a code of conduct and calls for accountability.

“The issue of incentives and allowances, which are performance-related, also have to be stipulated in the contract,” he said.

With 90 days before this year’s Olympics which run from August 13-27, Mutsauki hinted that the meeting was the first of six they will hold before departure for Greece. The meetings are expected to clear logistical issues before departure for the games.

He said the meetings will be held fortnightly and the initial one involved team managers and coaches.
