THE Warriors will receive $10 billion from government towards their participation in the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in January, Finance minister Herbert Murerwa announced during his 2006 national budget presentation yesterday.
The amount falls far short of what the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) said will be required for the team’s preparations and participating costs.
Zimbabwe, who are taking part in their second successive Nations Cup finals beginning on January 20, need at least $30 billion to see them through the tournament.
Zifa now pin hopes on the goodwill of the corporate sector to assist the Warriors. The national team lost the support of the handy Warriors Trust, who bankrolled the team for the 2002 edition in Tunisia.
Star striker Benjani Mwaruwari has pledged to bankroll a training camp for the Warriors in France, where is based.
