YOUR article “Chirundu Project threatens wildlife habitat” carried on Page 11 in the Zimbabwe Independent of July 8 2005 refers.
The inference that the Zimbabwe C
onservation and Development Foundation (ZCDF) stated that “the government is planning a massive agriculture and housing project in the Zambezi Valley on land designated for wildlife heritage” is a misconstruence of the facts, grossly misleading and negligent reporting by your correspondent.
At absolutely no stage of the communiqué issued was it inferred or stated by the ZCDF that the government was planning the aforementioned project.
The ZCDF states categorically that it has no knowledge of direct government involvement, regardless of the reference made to approval of a senior government executive.
