Kawondera ‘dumped my son’ at hospital

THE father of Godwishes Jera, the teenager who was seriously injured by Shingi Kawondera when the Zimbabwe international tossed him off the bonnet of his car, has claimed the footballer dumped his son at Chitungwiza Hospital and registered him under a false na

Solomon Jera said the incident happened around 8am on Saturday and not in the evening as police spokesman Andrew Phiri told this paper last week. He added that the incident took place at Unit L Shopping Centre in Chitungwiza, not at a nightclub as reported in this paper last week.

Jera refuted claims that his son and his friends had asked for money from Kawondera, saying the youths were whiling time away while Godwishes (19) sat on the bonnet of Kawondera’s stationary car.

Kawondera, he said, was seated in the car with unidentified female companions, and was aware that Godwishes was sitting on the bonnet as the two had earlier greeted each other.

Jera said it was after an argument with the women that Kawondera drove off without warning.

Godwishes fell off dangerously and was trapped under the car. Jera said Kawondera only stopped when onlookers started throwing stones towards his car. Godwishes sustained broken shoulder bones, a damaged liver and fractured pelvis. — Staff Writer.
