Caps finally release Kamwendo

CAPS United have finally agreed to release Malawian star Joseph Kamwendo to Danish top-flight side FC Nordsjaelland after a week of negotiations.
In a compromise deal agreed by Caps director Twine Phiri, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and the players’ agent, Ca

ps and Kamwendo’s former Malawian club, MTL Wanderers, will receive a development fee for the player from Nordsjaelland.
Kamwendo’s agent, Felix Sapao, said the feuding parties had reached a mutual agreement in line with the Fifa player status rules and regulations enacted last year with regards to training and development compensation for players between the ages of 12 and 23.
“Joseph is not yet 23 and as such MTL Wanderers and Caps deserve compensation from FC Nordsjaelland, be it during or after a contract,” Sapao said yesterday. “All concerned parties agreed in a series of meetings chaired by FAM that we had to compromise and end the whole controversy for the good of the game. The issue has been resolved and settled amicably as such all differences were sorted out.”
Kamwendo, who last year became the first foreigner to win Zimbabwe’s player of the year accolade, has been at the centre of an ownership wrangle as Caps insisted that the skilful Malawi international was contracted to them until 2007; claims denied by both the player and his manager.
Kamwendo returned to Malawi this week and is scheduled to go back to Denmark on Sunday, when he is expected to sign a long-term contract.
“I have been waiting for a very long time and I was getting worried,” Kamwendo told IndependentSport from Blantyre yesterday. “I’m happy that everything has been resolved. I’m now looking forward to play in Denmark. My game can only improve there. — Staff Writer.
