No sponsor yet but PSL boss tells clubs to relax

PREMIER Soccer League (PSL) chairman Tapiwa Matangaidze has said the league will not be rushed into signing any deal as the season goes into the second week with no sponsor on board.

“We will not take anything that will just come out,” Matangaidze said. &#8220

;We want something that will buttress our drive towards the full professionalism of the league.”

Matangadze said the top-flight clubs had to be patient despite clear evidence that they may be playing for nothing this season.

“We have asked the clubs to be patient and obviously we are keeping them updated on our efforts. The clubs appreciate what we are doing,” he said.

This weekend, traditional giants Caps United, Highlanders and Dynamos will be hoping for maximum points again after winning their season openers last weekend.

Top of the bill is the fixture between Dynamos and Black Rhinos at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday. There are high hopes in the Dynamos camp after their emotional 1-0 win over Shooting Stars, a side almost entirely made up of players who were at DeMbare last season.

However, Black Rhinos will be no pushovers after the army side displayed their pre-season promise by beating Buymore 1-0 through a goal by regular scorer Lazarus Muhoni last week.

Defending champions Caps, who registered a less than convincing 1-0 win over premiership yo-yo side Zimbabwe Saints away in Bulawayo, will have their resources put to the test by Buymore at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

On the same day former champions Highlanders are tipped to bag all three points against faltering Shabani Mine at the Barbourfields.

Last season’s runners-up Masvingo United, 1-0 victors against newly promoted Mwana Africa in their first game, square off against Motor Action who will be eager to bounce back into the picture immediately after suffering an early set-back when ambitious Monomotapa took them to the cleaners with a 3-0 drubbing on Saturday.
Full PSL fixtures:

Tomorrow: Monomotapa v Zimbabwe Saints (Sakubva); Railstars v Chapungu (Barbourfields), Shooting Stars v Lancashire Steel (Rufaro).

Sunday: Masvingo United v Motor Action (Mucheke); Black Rhinos v Dynamos (Rufaro); Hwange v Mwana Africa (Colliery), Caps United v Buymore (NSS), Highlanders v Shabanie Mine (Barbourfields). — Staff Writer.
