Mbeki should simply step aside

IN view of President Thabo Mbeki’s reluctance or inability to put pressure on President Robert Mugabe to stop his destructive policies in Zimbabwe one is forced to conclude that either Mugabe has some hold over him or the South African pr

esident prefers to have a weak Zimbabwe as his neighbour.

In light of the years of Mbeki’s failure as a negotiator on Zimbabwe and his heartless attitude to the hunger and suffering of the majority of Zimbabweans, may we, the people of this country request that he admit his failure, step aside and let someone more able try to resolve this intolerable mess.

Lionel Z Dzumbira,

Harare.
