Tibaijuka’s report spot-on

THE United Nations report on Operation Murambatsvina reflected the correct situation in Zimbabwe and Anna Tibaijuka was not under any pressure to be biased as alleged by President Robert Mugabe.

The Zanu PF government was not happy to see the UN special envoy consulting civic society and non-governmental organisations. Certain people wanted Tibaijuka to speak to Zanu PF officials alone.

Operation Murambatsvina was done in a satanic manner. To make it worse, Operation Garikai is unlikely to benefit all victims of the demolition blitz, let alone meet the demand for housing in Zimbabwe.

It is also important to note the government violated property rights in the process and it is only the poor who were harassed, abused and traumatised.

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan should not be misled by Mugabe into believing that Tibaijuka was under pressure to prepare a biased report.

Tibaijuka deserves a pat on the back for a very good report that tells things as they are in Zimbabwe.

Annan’s reported coming to see for himself is utter rubbish.
