THE ongoing number plate saga continues. After obtaining new type of registration plates to replace a lost one, the owner of the vehicle is now facing heavy fines by South African authorities for not having documentation that corresponds
with the new plate.
This consists of the cross-border permit, current vehicle licence disc, radio licence disc, carbon tax disc, insurance disc and the South African Port Authority entry disc – all of which display the previous registration number.
How does one prove to authority that the vehicle is legitimate? What is the procedure for changing the information on these documents and is it done free of charge?
It looks like we are heading for further chaos. Can someone in authority please supply answers to this looming problem?
Transport operators’ associations, where are you?
