Zimdollar call: Gono’s fight for relevance PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 12 January 2012 17:20

ZANU PF and central bank governor Gideon Gono are at it again: pushing for the return of the demonetised Zimbabwe dollar. What a pathetic sight to see some of us crying and clawing at relevance when the team bus has left without us.

The governor should be having an introspection in regards to what went wrong last time. He should not come up with some half-baked, half crazed pie in the sky nonsense. He should remember that Zimdollar nightmares are still a common occurrence in Zimbabwe. Is this the best avenue available in the quest to remain relevant Monsieur governor? The Zimdollar should stay buried just like it did to all our hopes and dreams. It can only be resurrected when those that were forced to vacate earth by it decide to rise up as well!

Could the good governor be missing the celebrity status with reporters and the limelight that he will go to any end to get it all back? Fame, like drugs, is addictive and this malady affects a lot of people.

We know that without the printing press, Gono and Zanu PF lost much of their financial muscle. There is little the RBZ chief can do to control the direction of monetary issues since all the currencies in use are from foreign countries.

The Zimdollar, if it returns, will not  last even a week. If the idea is to back it up with precious minerals, why not sell those minerals and cart the money into the country?

Calling whatever currency that will eventually come up in the distant future Zimdollar is worse than an insult to Zimbabweans.

Bemused,
Harare.
