Mutambara has thriving political party PDF Print E-mail

MUNYARADZI Huni’s comments under the opinion and analysis column (Sunday Mail, January 1, 2012) headed “2011:  The good, the bad and the ugly” is incorrect, misleading and malicious. Huni claims that Arthur Mutambara has no party and supporters and was the handiendi of  the year.

Contrary to what Huni wrote, Mutambara has a fully fledged political party with five legislators in parliament, a national executive council, party structures and members in all the provinces and districts of the country. The coup that was masterminded by Welshman Ncube to dislodge Mutambara was a failed coup that went terribly wrong for the ambitious Ncube.

He conducted a fake and fraudulent congress which was boycotted by the party’s national chairperson; chairperson of the Youth Assembly, chairperson of the Women’s Assembly and many national, provincial and district executive members.

The so-called successful congress resulted in the formation of the breakaway party MDC-N party led by Ncube which has failed to take off in the last 12 months.  Huni is also incorrect to say that Mutambara took his fight with Ncube to the courts; instead, it was Ncube who took the fight to the courts by applying for an interdict against Mutambara in the Bulawayo High Court which in turn made a judgment in his favour, although the circumstances looked dubious and suspicious. Mutambara has since exercised his legal rights and appealed against the judgement to the Supreme Court and the appeal has restored his full status of president of MDC-M, principal to the Global Political Agreement and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Zimbabwe until the case is heard.

For Huni and his colleagues who we know are sceptical of  Mutambara’s political future, be advised that he remains a factor in the Zimbabwean politics and is here to stay.

MDC-M Secretary for
