Zimbabwean golfers made their nation proud last week, securing gold and bronze medals at the prestigious Macau Golf Masters 2025.

The world’s largest golf tournament for athletes with intellectual disabilities, held from June 25th to 27th at the Macau Golf and Country Club, saw exceptional performances from the Special Olympics Zimbabwe team.

Selasi Chiwisa and Simba Mushayi demonstrated outstanding skill and teamwork, clinching a gold medal in the MGM Contender League Division.

Their remarkable achievement was complemented by Isaac Gutu, who secured a well-deserved bronze medal in the Challenger League Division.

The Zimbabwean delegation was led by Simon Murungweni, who served as both Head of Delegation and coach for the team, guiding them to this international success.

The team's smart kit for the trip was generously sponsored by Bard Santner.

This triumph at the Macau Golf Masters, a key part of the Inclusion Conference Series that brought together over 100 players in a celebration of inclusive sport, highlights Special Olympics Zimbabwe's unwavering commitment to providing opportunities for athletes with disabilities.

Through such platforms, these athletes can showcase their talents, achieve their full potential, and represent their country on a global stage.

Special Olympics Zimbabwe board chairperson Advocate Absolom Muchandiona,  expressed immense pride in the team's performance.

"We are quite excited by the performance of our young golfers at such an international showcase," he stated. "They have flown the national flag very high, and we can't wait to join them in celebration."

He further added, "Unfortunately, I am not going to the Region 5 Youth Games in Namibia because of prior commitments. Otherwise, I would have travelled. All the same, we wish our Special Olympics Zimbabwe Team the best of luck and are looking forward to another set of good results from them."

The success in Macau is a testament to the dedication of the athletes, the guidance of their coach, and the support from organizations like Bard Santner and Special Olympics Zimbabwe, all working together to foster an inclusive environment where every athlete can thrive.
